Welcome to site for the VITAL Collaborative at Utah State University!

We are a Learning Sciences and Technologies research group that specializes on issues of Visualization, Interaction, Technology, and Learning (VITAL). We are housed in the Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences at Utah State University, the leading College of Education in the mountain west.

Guiding assumptions of the VITAL Collaborative:

  • Learning takes place through a range of interpersonal and person-material interactions
  • Learning by individuals involve changes to a highly complex knowledge system that we can always seek to better model and understand
  • Learning often involves the creation, modification, or interpretation of representations
  • Design can be a strategy for both improving and understanding learning
  • Emerging technologies can lead to new learning potentials that remain to be thoughtfully explored
